What billing frequencies can I choose from?

Details the billing frequencies currently available for business owners to select

Updated this week

No two pet care businesses operate exactly the same way — so your billing shouldn’t have to, either.

PetPocketbook offers flexible billing frequencies to help you match your cash flow, service model, and client expectations.

When you set up automatic billing, you will be prompted to choose which billing frequency you'd like to set as the default option for your pet parents. You can choose only one option and make it the required default for all clients, or you can choose multiple options to allow your pet parents to select from the options you've made available.

Below is a breakdown of each billing option, along with clear examples of what it looks like in action.

Daily Billing

Best for: Per-visit services such as daycare or grooming services with variable attendance and sporadic scheduling.

With daily billing, clients are automatically invoiced the day after services are provided.

How it works:

  • A service is provided today

  • An invoice is automatically sent the following day

Example:

  • A dog attends daycare on Tuesday

  • The invoice is automatically sent on Wednesday

If a client attends multiple days in a row, they’ll receive an invoice each following day for the previous day’s services.

This option keeps billing closely aligned with actual usage and ensures consistent daily revenue flow.

Weekly Billing

Best for: Recurring weekly schedules. We recommend this for regular services such as drop ins and walks. We recommend weekly billing so you can get paid faster and more routinely!

Weekly billing groups all services provided from Monday through Sunday, and automatically sends the invoice the following Monday.

How it works:

  • Services from Monday → Sunday

  • Invoice automatically sent the following Monday

Example:

  • Services provided between Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 9

  • Invoice automatically sent on Monday, March 10

This option simplifies billing for clients who attend regularly each week and creates a predictable weekly billing rhythm.

Every Other Week (Biweekly) Billing

With biweekly billing, you choose the two-week cycle. All services provided during those two weeks (Monday through the second Sunday) are grouped together, and the invoice is sent the following Monday.

How it works:

  • Two-week service window: Monday → Sunday (Week 1) and Monday → Sunday (Week 2)

  • Invoice sent on the Monday after the second Sunday

Example:

If your two-week cycle runs:

  • Monday, March 3 – Sunday, March 16

  • Invoice automatically sent on Monday, March 17

You can determine how your two-week cycles are structured, giving you flexibility while keeping billing organized and predictable.

1st and 15th Billing (Semi-Monthly)

Best for: Clients who prefer payroll-aligned billing.

This option bills clients twice per month — on the 1st and the 16th — covering two specific date ranges.

How it works:

  • Services from the 1st – 15th

    • Invoice automatically sent on the 15th

  • Services from the 1st – end of the month

    • Invoice automatically sent on the 1st of the following month

Example:

  • Services provided March 1 – March 15

    • Invoice sent on March 15

  • Services provided March 15 – March 31

    • Invoice automatically sent on April 1

This structure keeps billing aligned with common payroll cycles while ensuring revenue is collected consistently throughout the month.

Monthly Billing

Best for: Flat-rate monthly memberships, unlimited plans, or simplified billing structures.

With monthly billing, all services provided during the calendar month are grouped into a single invoice, which is sent on the first day of the following month.

How it works:

  • Services from the 1st – end of month

  • Invoice sent on the 1st of the following month

Example:

  • Services provided March 1 – March 31

  • Invoice automatically sent on April 1

This option offers maximum simplicity and predictability for both you and your clients.

Choosing the Right Billing Frequency

The right billing frequency depends on:

  • How often clients use your services

  • Whether you charge per visit or offer packages

  • Your cash flow goals

  • What feels most intuitive for your clients

While you can choose which billing frequency is the default for all clients, you can also customize the billing frequency per client as well!

Automated billing helps you create a system that supports your operations, keeps clients informed, and ensures steady revenue — without adding administrative work.

If you’re unsure which billing setup is best for your business, our team is happy to help you think it through!
