What's the 5% service fee, and does my pet care provider get any of it?

PetPocketbook charges a 5% service fee (minimum of $1) when you pay through our platform for the convenience of managing and paying for your pets’ care in PetPocketbook.

TL;DR: This fee helps cover payment processing costs, supports ongoing improvements to PetPocketbook, and keeps the platform affordable for the pet care businesses you trust.

When you pay through PetPocketbook, your pet care provider doesn’t pay traditional processing fees that eat into their bottom line – PetPocketbook does. Most of the service fee that you pay goes toward the payment processing costs we incur to securely process your payment.

The remainder helps support operating costs at PetPocketbook so that we can keep our lights on and continue to invest in improving the platform—making it easier for your pet care providers to stay organized, communicate clearly, and deliver consistent, high-quality care.

Your support also helps subsidize software costs for the small businesses that care for your pets, keeping PetPocketbook affordable and accessible to teams of all sizes. With the money saved between processing fees and software subscription costs—and the time saved on day-to-day admin, your local pet care business can stay focused on what they do best: building trust, showing up reliably, and giving your pets the personalized care they deserve. It truly takes a village, and we're grateful you're part of ours. 💪🍻🥳

How do I see these fees?

To see a record of the service fee, go to your Invoices tab in your pet parent portal. For each payment, you will see a summary of tips and fees just below the amount paid for services. You can see more details by clicking on the information icon next to tips and fees.

What if I need a refund?

If your pet care provider authorizes a refund, we're happy to process it on their behalf. Refunds apply only to the amount paid toward your bill. PetPocketbook's service fee is non-refundable because it helps cover payment processing costs that we incur when your payment is completed, and those costs aren't returned to us when a payment is refunded.
